I encourage everyone to participate in the process by submitting nominations of those you believe would be good candidates, the Nominating Committee will contact those nominated to see if they would be willing to serve. That is not the responsibility of those submitting the nomination.
In case you didn't get the email, or lost it in the hundreds a day that you could receive... The calendar is in the Documents section, which can be found by following this link LHS Band Schedule 2010-2011. Please note that this schedule is subject to change! The calendar will also be posted to the site's calendar over time.
As you may or may not know, Rutherford County high schools will
be adopting a "modified block" schedule beginning Fall 2010. Students
are currently registering for next fall as we speak. The
schedule will feature a 7 period day (same time as the current day,
8:30am - 3:30pm) that is a great positive since it offers more
opportunities for students to take more classes, particularly electives
(such as Fine Arts). That being said, this will greatly assist us with
scheduling conflicts that sometimes force kids to not be in a band
class for a given semester. Some changes:Jazz Band will probably be worked into the school day somewhere rather than being an early morning class. This should not be a problem for the students due to the seven
periods. Jazz Band will probably (possibly) meet during 2nd period, Music Theory will probably stay 1st period, Percussion will probably be 6th, and Band will probably be 7th period.
All of the above being said, please
be aware that guidance at this time may be telling students that they
are limited to a set number of electives. Per Ms. Seymore, this not
true.At this time, please insist that your
child be enrolled in whatever arts classes they desire (as long as it
fits within the 7 period day and meets their graduation requirements). Any student that normally has been in both Jazz Band, Regular Band, and
Percussion Ensemble should still have no conflicts with those classes. Please let me know if there are any questions concerning any of
this...and please have students come to me (or Mr. Crumley) if they are
told otherwise by guidance.
