In case you didn't get the email, or lost it in the hundreds a day that you could receive... The calendar is in the Documents section, which can be found by following this link LHS Band Schedule 2010-2011. Please note that this schedule is subject to change! The calendar will also be posted to the site's calendar over time.
As you may or may not know, Rutherford County high schools will
be adopting a "modified block" schedule beginning Fall 2010. Students
are currently registering for next fall as we speak. The
schedule will feature a 7 period day (same time as the current day,
8:30am - 3:30pm) that is a great positive since it offers more
opportunities for students to take more classes, particularly electives
(such as Fine Arts). That being said, this will greatly assist us with
scheduling conflicts that sometimes force kids to not be in a band
class for a given semester. Some changes:Jazz Band will probably be worked into the school day somewhere rather than being an early morning class. This should not be a problem for the students due to the seven
periods. Jazz Band will probably (possibly) meet during 2nd period, Music Theory will probably stay 1st period, Percussion will probably be 6th, and Band will probably be 7th period.
All of the above being said, please
be aware that guidance at this time may be telling students that they
are limited to a set number of electives. Per Ms. Seymore, this not
true.At this time, please insist that your
child be enrolled in whatever arts classes they desire (as long as it
fits within the 7 period day and meets their graduation requirements). Any student that normally has been in both Jazz Band, Regular Band, and
Percussion Ensemble should still have no conflicts with those classes. Please let me know if there are any questions concerning any of
this...and please have students come to me (or Mr. Crumley) if they are
told otherwise by guidance.
From Mr. Freytag:
We have a new performance ensemble just formed this winter that went to
its first competition this past Saturday. The LHS Winter Colorguard
competed this past weekend in the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit show
in Bowling Green, KY. The Guard placed 4th out of 11 in Novice
Class...their first time ever out of the gate! Congratulations to the
LHS Winterguard and their instructors, Katie Brimer & Kim McKim!
Also,
I have just received notice that the LHS Marching Band (based on its
competition record over the past 5 years) has been invited to the 2011
Sugar Bowl competition in the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana in
January of 2011. We are excited about the invitation but will probably
not pursue this one due to other activities planned in the latter part
of 2010. The Sugar Bowl representative assured us that we would
definitely be considered for future events.
Mr. Freytag has informed noted that Jazz Fest in Murfreesboro has been moved back until May 7th and 8th. The LHS Jazz Band will perform on Friday night, May 7th. The schedule can be down loaded Jazz Fest May 7, 2010 Schedule
